By &#039;convergence&#039; I was speaking to the end goal of having these sensing and communicating systems interacting and responding to each other in a coordinated manner on a common platform. I agree that hooking them up to the Internet could be a step in that direction, however that may not lead to the most efficient and secure solution. A &#039;converged&#039; smart system may have Internet like characteristics however the best standardized solution need not necessarily start with current Internet standards.</description>

Giving energy, transportation and buildings some senses - ability to observe - and some basic language skills and hooking them up to the internet would be a big step.</description>
