The purpose of this forum is to discuss some issues relating to China and its ICT standardization process and policies, including for instance the Chinese government’s policy to promote the development of indigenous innovation.
First of all, I invite comments on the following introductory remarks to the right.
The rapid development in China over the last decades raises many interesting issues to discuss, for example:
- The Chinese government is promoting the development of “indigenous innovation”. What are the likely effects of this policy in China and in the global market?
- With the aim of reducing China’s dependency on foreign developed technology, the Chinese are imposing some national standards. To what extent is this causing political tension?
- Is it likely that China will be a source of global standards, i.e. Chinese developed standards reaching global deployment?
- China is pursuing multinational R&D projects in- and outside of its borders. Could these projects serve as a mean to avoid market fragmentation?
A brief institutional background to Chinese ICT policy is given in this article: ICT Policy in China- The Institutional Framework
